Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join in first sc. (6sc) Do not turn.
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc now and throughout) dc in same sc as joining, 2 dc in each remaining sc around, join in top of ch 3. (12 dc)
Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in same ch as joining, 2 dc in each dc around, join in top of ch 3. (24 dc)
Rnd 4: Ch 3, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next) around, join. (36 dc)
Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, join. (48 dc)
Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 2 dc, 2 sc in next (sc in next 3, 2 sc in next) around, join. (60 sc)
Rnd 7: Ch 2, hdc in each sc around, join in top of ch 2.
Rnd 8 – 23: Repeat rnd 7. You can add more rows if you’d like a deeper purse.
Rnd 24: (Drawstring round) Ch 3, sk next hdc (hdc in next, ch 1, sk next hdc) around, join in 2nd ch of beginning ch 3.
Rnd 25 – 26: Ch 2, hdc in each hdc and ch space around, join.
Rnd 27: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each st around, join. Finish off and weave in ends.
Drawstring: Ch 110, finish off. Beginning and ending in ch-1 sp between 15th and 16th hdc on Rnd 24, weave drawstring over and under each hdc. Hold ends together and pull each length even, insert the ends through the center of bead; tie each end into a knot. Or as you can see from the photo, other finishing variations are possible.
Strap: Ch to measure about 48” long (approx. 195 ch), hold purse with right side facing you, working on inside of purse sl st from back to front around post of 8th hdc from joining on Rnd 24; ch 1, turn; sc in each ch. Being careful not to twist ch; sl st from back to front around post of 15th hdc from strap joining; ch 1, and continuing up the other side of strap, sc in unworked ch to end. Finish off and weave in ends.
