2 Years…are you kidding me?!

Wait, what?  You say it’s been 2 years since I posted a blog?  You’re kidding, right?  RIGHT?!  I must be getting older, because the time slipped by too quickly.   Well, I have to confess that I’m no spring chicken.  My license says I was born 53 years ago,  but I still think I’m too young to talk about being old.

Anyway, faithful reader (who am I kidding?  I wouldn’t have stuck around if I were a follower of a quiet blog like this one) I am here and I have been a busy girl.  I have been knitting, crocheting, stitching, and embroidering many things and have been quite content in doing so.  Today I have no pictures to share but I did want to pop in and shake things up a bit by actually posting.

Perhaps I will even reload the WordPress app on my phone and I can share photos in a more timely manner, since I usually take said photos with my phone.

Okay world,  I have made my appearance again, and I solemnly swear not to let another 2 years go by before coming back.  If I don’t use this blog, then I might as well delete it.  Frankly, I don’t want to do that.  Until next time…

Winter Storm

So glad it wasn’t as bad as they projected for us here in SE Michigan. Oh, we got lots of snow, but only about 1/2 of what they were calling for. I’ve spent almost an hour out there shoveling already this morning, and still have some left. What a great morning workout!

Today is Groundhog Day. Not that I believe in the accuracy of an animal “predicting” how much longer winter will last. It always ends around the same time each year, whether that little guy sees his shadow or not. My question is….will the groundhog declare today a snow day and reschedule? Or will he bring out his little groundhog shovel and clear a path from his burrow?

In knitting news:  I’ve finished 2 WIPs from last year!  Woohoo!  One of them is this top:

I knit this top in Knit Picks Bare yarn, then dyed it using Jacquard Acid Dye in Russet.  It’s actually a little more of a deep red than shows in the photo.  The color was knit in worsted and the remainder of the top was knit in fingering weight.

Brrrr! Winter is here!

We got hit with that nasty storm over the weekend!   It was a good time to stay in and knit, though I did have to take breaks and go outside to shovel the driveway.  Hubby was at work until late in the evening, when the storm was winding down.  One thing I’ve always loved to do is to get outdoors with my camera after a heavy snow and try to capture some of the beauty of it.

And last, but not least is a photo of a finished Christmas gift.

Aaargh Matey, we be pirates!

Woohoo and things learned

Stepped on the scale this morning….I was down another 2 pounds, which brings my total loss to 15 pounds!  It’s funny how emotional you can get over things like that, but when I saw the numbers I started to cry.  I am proud of how hard I’ve worked and it’s really nice to see progress and the positive changes.

Today at Wise Geek I learned about the Dog Days of Summer and what actually started that phrase.  Seems it has absolutely nothing to do with dogs, but with the star Sirius which is part of the constellation Canis Major.  Click on the link to read about it, learn something new today. (if you didn’t already know it)

Then I read about the Top 10 Most Idiotic Parenting Products.  I worked for several years in a major baby store, I can tell you that it never ceased to amaze me how much stupid stuff comes out and how these marketing companies convince new parents that they MUST have all this stuff in order to be good parents.  The only thing we did not sell is the last item on that list….to that all I can say is “gross!!”.  Sometimes people just go too far.  But that’s just my opinion.

No knitting news today, we spent yesterday painting, doing odd jobs around the house, and walking.

Umm July, where have you gone??

I just realized that we are in the final week of July!  Where has it gone and how did it go so quickly?  It has been a busy month, to be sure.

We have been working on the house a lot.  Just finished the kitchen flooring in the addition and have started painting the dining room.  The upstairs bedroom is almost done, which is a good thing since our daughter and granddaughter have moved back home for a bit.  Sigh, higher food bills, higher electric bill, and girl drama.  Nah, what am I saying?  It’s going to be okay….having that 4 year old granddaughter here is a blast.  She says some of the most hilarious things, and she’s not even trying to be funny when she says them, she’s being serious. (which of course, makes it even funnier)

Just spent the past weekend down in Ohio with my BFF.  We had a great time knitting, drinking coffee, eating ice cream, and yarn shopping.  Believe it or not, I only bought ONE skein of yarn while I was down there!  Yes, you heard that right!  ONE!!!  I got a skein of Blue Sky Organic Cotton in a really pale shade of pink.  Just beautiful!  PLUS, here’s the real bonus….I got if for 1/2 price!  Sadly, I’m thinking that the owner will be closing that particular shop soon.  Her inventory was quite low and practically everything in the store was 50% off.

Finished the socks I was designing:

I’m currently finishing up the final touches on the pattern and will be offering it for sale on Ravelry.  I’ve also got another pattern I’m working on.  Fingerless gloves this time, with the most scrumptious of yarns!

Frustration and a little bit of whining

First the whining.  I’m going to take a moment to whine….just a bit.  I think it’s just sad that my blog has gotten almost 12, 000 hits and not so much as a peep out of the visitors in quite awhile.  The largest majority of visitors come for the free patterns, most especially my baby socks, but rarely give feedback or say something as simple as “thank you”.

I don’t know, maybe it’s just me.  Maybe I’m just old-fashioned…living in a day when good manners were more important and were considered a virtue.  I know that when I go to someone’s blog and get a pattern I post a comment thanking them for sharing.  But it seems that in our world today, things don’t work that way anymore.  Ah well, no sense in whining about it.  But don’t think for a moment, that I’m going to give up MY good manners…..even at my age, I’d get in trouble with my Mom. 😉

At the moment I’m a bit frustrated with my body.   To be more precise,  I’m frustrated with the effect that jogging is having on my knees.  I thought that perhaps it would pass, but after 3 1/2 weeks, I am having trouble with stiffness and a dull ache still.   It’s more in the joint on the side of the leg, not the kneecap.  It’s at the the worst on days I run.  I don’t run on consecutive days because that made it worse.   It’s fine WHILE I’m running, no pain or anything, just the rest of the day afterward? Maybe I’m just too old to start running and should find an alternative cardio to replace it with?  Grrrrrr!  And I was feeling so darn proud of how I’d been doing.

I also discovered a fun new obsession…Wii tennis!  Wow!  That game is a blast.  I had to rest my right arm today and not play, because the muscle was too sore.  Wow, who would have thought? 🙂

Reusable grocery bags and more

I’ve posted before about the things my family is doing to reduce our impact on the planet.  One of the things we do is use reusable bags.  I just read this article about them : Reusable Shopping Bags: Safe? I hope you will take the time to read through the article, most especially if you use reusable bags.   What it boils down to is this: wash them periodically.  I have to admit, that I hadn’t given it much though until I read that article, but it makes sense.  On a side note: I recently heard someone in line at the grocery store bragging about how they are helping to save the planet by using reusable bags, then went out and loaded their groceries into their Hummer.  Saving the planet?  By driving a gas guzzler??

In knitting, I have finished the socks I was designing.  If you look to the right of your screen you will see my Flickr photos.  I’m plodding my way through writing and graphing the pattern out now.  I have been encouraged to offer them for sale on Ravelry, so we’ll see how that goes.  Now I’m working on a pair of fingerless gloves that I’m designing.  I’ve got an idea for another pair of socks, so that will be drawn out today.

I had read about a fun little website that will give you prompts for writing on your blog more frequently.  Which explains my recent post about Little House on the Prairie.  Check it out over at Plinky You do have to join if you want it to link to your blog, but it’s free to join.  It was fun to scroll through the many different prompts and read some of the responses.

Today I run again.  I’m in week 2 of Couch to 5K I actually repeated week 1 since I didn’t feel I was ready to move on to week 2.  But it’s great because you do notice an increase in endurance.  I haven’t weighed in yet, I don’t want to get obsessed with the scale, so I try to avoid weighing too often.  I feel great though!  And yesterday when I got dressed I noticed that my capris were fitting more loosely in the hip area.  Ah, improvement! 😀
